Hello! So Glad You're Here

I'm Phimchanok Liampan.

I am a senior in the English program the Department of Humanities at Chiang Mai University. This website is part of my communication project for my independent study 001489. My research is Analysis of the Translation of Non-equivalence at Word Level in Encanto. The goal of the study is to evaluate the translation strategies used in the Thai version of the Encanto soundtracks from English to Thai using non-equivalence at word level translation techniques of Mona Baker as framework. The data were collected from four songs in the perspective of effort and hope which are Waiting On A Miracle lyrics, Surface Pressure, What Else Can I Do?, and All of You. Then, Baker's non-equivalence at word level translation strategies were identified.

This research utilized the qualitative research approach to gather data for this study by choosing words in each line of the song. The results of research reveal that the predominant (40.8%) of the items were translated by paraphrasing using unrelated word, and omission was employed for thirty-nine (17.5%) items. Thirdly, thirty-one (13.9%) items were rendered by paraphrasing using a related word. Next, other strategies are a more neutral/ less expressive word (10.3%), cultural substitution (5.8%), a loan word or loan word plus explanation (5.8%), and a more general word (4%), while a minority (1.8%) of the items were rendered using the illustration method. It was found out that paraphrasing using unrelated word was the dominant approach used in all the four songs.

Thus, this website includes data from my research and present as posts. So, if you have any feedback or ideas, kindly post them below.
