Tip #6 - Paraphrase using unrelated words

If the target language does not define the concept with which the source language communicates, the paraphrase can be used to expand on the meaning of the source language

The word "หนังก็หนาดังเหล็กกล้าที่เป็นเลิศไง" first occurs at minute 0:28 and is rendered as "Got a rough, indestructible surface" in the source language.

Rough and indestructible can be directly rendered as ขรุขระ and ซึ่งไม่สามารถทำลายได้. These two terms connote a fortitude that nothing can break.

หนาดังเหล็กกล้า is a simile in the target language that describes Luisa's steely fortitude. The statement has been paraphrased, which does not convey the same sentiment or meaning. The benefit of using a simile is that it provides a point of reference.

As a consequence, the simile method is used to paraphrase using unrelated words. By using a simile, the interpreter helps the target language reader picture the concept and gain a better grasp of the situation.
